The RoboDogs are going to the Western Edge FIRST LEGO Open
LongBeach California May 31 - June 2
How we got here
Our middle school-aged robotics team the RoboDogs has had a great season winning awards in regional and state-level competitions. Because of their success, the RoboDogs have been selected to represent Washington at the Western Edge FIRST LEGO Open in Long Beach, California. 90 teams from across the United States will head to the 3-day competition in late May. It’s a tremendous opportunity for these kids and our community, through months of hard work they’ve proven they have what it takes to compete at a top level.

What we have done
Each year in mid-August a new game is released with unique challenges that a robot must complete autonomously to score points. The team has to develop an overall strategy for the game, individual techniques for points, build a robot, develop various attachments, and program the whole thing. Once that’s done, they practice the game, finding areas for improvement and re-design. At the same time, they complete a research project and prepare 2 presentations that they are also judged on. The team did well enough across all these categories to win the opportunity to move on to the national level.
How you can help
The RoboDogs are part of the Kettle Falls Robotics Booster Club and a 501c3 organization. As you might guess, getting 10 kids, 2 coaches, a few parents, and some robots to Long Beach for 3-4 nights is a bit expensive, especially for our small afterschool program. Your donation would be greatly appreciated if you’d like to support the RoboDogs.
